CT9 · Margate area
The inland suburb south-west of Margate. Larger family gardens, standard panel or closeboard, less coastal exposure so timber life extends 4-6 years compared to seafront.
Garlinge sits inland of Westbrook, straddling the A28 to Canterbury. Stock is mostly interwar and post-war semis, some later development, with generous rear gardens by Thanet standards. The salt easterly is broken by the coastal stock before it reaches Garlinge boundaries, which means timber life extends noticeably compared to Cliftonville or Palm Bay - honest 15-year closeboard runs, honest 10-12-year panel runs.
Panel fencing is the reasonable answer on most Garlinge rear boundaries. Closeboard is still the honest upgrade for anyone wanting the longer life, but a standard overlap panel run on concrete posts and gravel boards is a good economy here where it would be a false economy on Cliftonville.
Standard permitted-development rules apply: 2m rear and side, 1m to a highway. No conservation-area restrictions.
